On 21 st and 22 nd Nov. 1998, a seminar on JP's educational philosophy was organised at Navnagar Vidyalaya Nigdi. About 200 teachers , researchers and activists from various educational divisions of JP participated in the seminar.
Two theme lectures were delivered by Dr. Usha Khire and Prof. Vishwanath Gurjar.
The themes were psychological and Spiritual foundations of JP's educational
model respectively.
Forty-one papers in four parallel sessions were presented and discussed. The
broad areas under which these papers may be classified were -
Apart from these papers, nearly 50 papers were presented in poster form. One
session was reserved on each day to discuss these poster papers.
A few representatives among past students discussed learning process experienced
by them in JP. The discussion provided a useful feedback to the teacher community.
The results of All India Secondary School Examinations were declared in June 1999. The results were, 100% passed. Highlights of the results are as follows-
During the educational year 1998-99, 10 students qualified at nat ional level
talent search examination (NTSE) of them 8 were awarded National Talent Scholarship.
In 1999-2000, 7 students qualified for the national level exam.
Prashala bagged the prestigious Late N. C. Rana memorial trophy for the consequtive
second ye ar. This trophy is awarded to the best performing school during Science
day programme at Inter University Centre for Astrophysics and Astronomy (IUCAA).
National Science Congress was organised at University of Pune in the first week
of January 2000. An e xhibition of 40 simple experiments explaining various
scientific principles was arranged in the university campus. The exhibition
was designed by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education of TIFR, Mumbai. Ninth
Std. students of JP Prashala demonstrated th ese experiments to thousands of
spectators for a week. Through this experience, children got an opportunity
to take science to the common folk.
During the educational year 1999-2000, students from class 9 visited different
institutions in Pune. Each studen t visited one institution. He or she interviewed
the office bearers of the institution, collected information about goals, objectives,
organisational structure and achievements of that institution and then presented
this information in students' assembly. In all, 58 institutions such as Central
Institute of Road Transport., Ved Vidya Bhavan, Rajhans Prakashan, VSNL, Vanarai,
Vanchit Vikas etc., were visited by 74 students.
This year, class 7 students were given an assignment to take interviews of two
perso ns, one a layman and other an eminent personality. In this programme,
students interviewed people like policeman, barber, cobbler, tailor, nurse,
shop-owner, hawker, labourer etc., and learned about their daily struggle for
earning bread and butter.By int erviewing people at peaks of achievements, children
learnt the qualities required to attain excellence in different fields.
During the Ganesh Festival, different groups of students went to slums and 4 villages. They performed one and half hour's entertai nment programme. It contained a small street play, patriotic and devotional songs and dance. The basic objective of the programme was to create awareness among people about illiteracy, corruption, unhygienic conditions, pollution etc. Nearly 450 students participated and 14 Programmes reached to a population of 3,600 people.
In December 1998, 2 separate camps for girls and boys from class 8 were organised at Sajjan gad. The aim of the camps was to prepare the students for "Vidyavrat Sanskar". They st udied selected parts from the literature of Samarth Ramdas and Aacharya Vinobaji Bhave. Lectures, group discussion, silent study were the methods used. Students participated in kakad Arti , the pre-dawn worship in the morning and they walked around the fort chanting " Manache Shlok ".
In the month of Jan. 99, girls from class 9 were taken to a residential camp at village Panchanadi near Dapoli. The girls stayed in the company of nature and learnt about various facts of human environment from Shri. Dilip Kulkarni, an environmentalist. In the afternoon sessions, girls read and discussed inspiring biographies. Discussions were held in the evening at seashore of the village. This camp has made a deep impression on girls.
In the month of April, 40 girls from class 7 and 8 participated in a science camp. During the camp, the students designed and performed various experiments in physics, chemistry and biology. In the evening, eminent personalities in the field of science shared their experiences with th e children. Participants also visited a modern genetic laboratory.
This year, India faced Pakistani aggression and a number of activities were organised to create an awareness among students and citizens in the nei ghbourhood about this grave national issue. The important activities were a rally of 5000 students from 14 schools, felicitations of soldiers, army officers and ex-servicemen by going to their houses or by calling them to school.
Gurukul, the day-boardin g section successfully entered its third year. There was one division each of 5th , 6th, and 7th standards. In the year 1998, they had their second 'Know your motherland' camp at three different places i.e. Aurangabad, Pal in Jalgaon Dist. and Gadchi roli. This year, students of 5th standard had their camping site at Koshimghar near Panshet, standard 6 th studends went to Kolhapur and standard 7th students studied various aspects of life and environment in Goa.
Kreedakul, the day boarding sports educ ation section has successfully started its second year. They had two residential camps - one was of a month's duration in November-December 98 and the other was of two months' duration in November 99-January 2000. They displayed a spectacular sports dem onstration on the occassion of the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand on 13th Jan. 2000.
