8.Development of awareness in Social Problems

Sensing the need of time, a research project on " development of social awareness" has been undertaken by JP Institute of Psychology since 1994. As a doctoral research has been completed on this topic and some replicatory research is going on.

Development of a training programme for increasing awareness of social problems amongst the highschool sudents was the main aim of a doctoral research . Results indicate a positive effect on the children's awareness of problems due to social injustice. For verification of these results a replicatory study was launched for two separate groups. They include junior college girl students of lower income group from two different colleges in Pune.

Weekly training sessions were conducted by a team of psychologists and activists for these students in their own schools/colleges. Various methods like games, group tas ks, discussions, interviews, lectures were used for imparting information and motivation building. Main emphasis was given on making them aware of the gravity of the problems and motivating them for finding a solution at the micro level.

The junior college girl students also did some field visits which gave a new impetus to their perception and empathetic understanding of these problems.
